Thilagavathy Rama Loo is a senior lawyer with 15 years of civil litigation experience with a specialized focus on data protection and compliance. With a strong analytical and supervisory focus, Thilaga is currently spear heading the firm’s data protection department. Thilaga works closely with corporate clients to review, identify, develop and implement internal data governance frameworks. She plays a pivotal role in advising and supervising corporate clients on regulatory requirements including GDPR, PDPA, and other international data frameworks. Thilaga regularly advices on data protection impact assessments, internal policies/guidelines, data breach response strategies, and regulatory filings. In the same spirit, Thilaga also actively conducts tailored training and compliance seminars for her corporate clients to promote awareness and operational readiness in the ever-evolving data protection landscape.
Thilaga’s focus in data governance dive deeper when she was offered Research Assistant position under master’s Graduate Program at University Malaya for a two-year state study in relation to health data protection in Malaysia and other jurisdictions. While pursuing master’s and practicing law under her own firm of Messrs Rama & Partners, Thilaga managed to present a final paper titled “Legal Protection and Management of Health Data in Malaysia: A Critical Analysis” which was selected as best paper and published in University Malaya Law Review Journal Vol 6 2022 (UMLR).
Before transitioning into a data protection leadership role, Thilaga acted over a decade as a civil litigator, handling various civil and commercial disputes. She has offered wide range of legal assistance and had acted as lead and co-counsel in various court proceedings from industrial courts to Federal Court. She also has successfully mediated various contentious matters without the need of strenuous court process to save cost, time and effort of her clients. During her legal career over the years, Thilaga had also widened her exposure by joining MISC Berhad, (wholly owned subsidiary company of Petronas) being one of the biggest shipping companies in Malaysia where she has gained hands on knowledge and experience in business strategy, contract management and negotiation process. This exposure had added immense value in enabling her to provide holistic view to her corporate clients in managing and arriving at commercially sound legal decisions.
Apart from practice, Thilaga also an active member of Malaysian Bar where she held various position from the year of 2012 to 2025 as follows,
