
Sandhya graduated with a First Class LLB (Hons) from the University of the West of England, Bristol in 2016. She was subsequently called to the Bar of England and Wales by The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2017 and admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2018.
In the course of her practice, has developed her practice within some of Malaysia’s largest and most established law firms. Her experience within these leading firms has consistently placed her at the forefront of complex, high-value disputes, where she has been exposed to intricate legal issues, demanding clients, and multi-layered litigation strategies.
She began her career at Shearn Delamore & Co., where she was retained in the Intellectual Property practice following her pupillage. There, she was involved in cross-border intellectual property disputes, advising on trademark enforcement, domain name , and multi-jurisdictional opposition and cancellation proceedings, working closely with foreign counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
She subsequently practised at Skrine and Azman Davidson & Co., where she built a strong disputes practice and was regularly involved in significant commercial litigation across all levels of the Malaysian courts, including the Federal Court. Her work has covered a wide spectrum of high-stakes matters, including fraud and asset recovery, contractual disputes, construction claims, and disputes involving complex issues on statutory interpretation and procedural law.
Sandhya has been involved in matters with substantial financial exposure, including claims exceeding RM200 million, and has acted in disputes involving multinational corporations, public-listed entities, liquidators, and receivers.
Most recently, Sandhya was part of the Banking & Finance practice at Azmi & Associates, where she was involved in matters relating to fraudulent trading, dissipation of charged assets, and debt recovery.
Her practice encompasses commercial litigation, banking disputes, construction and infrastructure claims, insurance litigation, tort and employment-related matters. Drawing from her experience across leading firms, Sandhya approaches disputes with a strategic, commercially focused mindset, balancing legal rigour with practical and outcome-driven solutions.
Notable Matters
- Involved in defending a Singapore-based oil and gas company in a claim for deceit and negligent misstatement relating to projected capital expenditure valued at approximately RM150 million, with proceedings up to the Federal Court.
- Involved in representing a contractor in a dispute involving the enforcement of a corporate guarantee valued at approximately RM200 million in relation to a major development project.
- Involved in defending a contractor in a negligence claim involving damage to underground cables against a claim brought by a Malaysian utility company, valued at approximately RM10 million.
- Involved in a Federal Court matter involving a breach of a loan facility agreement valued at approximately RM39 million, including complex issues of res judicata and assessment of damages.
- Involved in a High Court claim involving fraudulent disposal of property valued at approximately RM2.6 million, including issues relating to statutory provisions and exemplary damages.
- Involved in a claim concerning a company in liquidation pursuing claims valued at approximately RM50 million against its former directors and related entities including a German-incorporated company for fraudulent trading and breach of directors’ duties under the Companies Act 2016.
- Involved in advisory work concerning the privileges and immunities conferred to an international organisation specifically immunity from suit and inviolability of papers and documents.
- Managed a portfolio of insurance claims under contractors’ all risk policies involving government concessions for road maintenance across Malaysia.
- Involved in defending and advising on employment-related disputes, including unjust dismissal and constructive dismissal claims, as well as workplace compliance issues for companies across industries.
- Involved in complex intellectual property enforcement and cross-border disputes involving multinational clients, including opposition and cancellation proceedings across multiple jurisdictions such as Indonesia, China, India and Australia.
- Involved in a claim involving unlawful termination of a contract that was appealed to the Federal Court. The Court of Appeal’s decision provided clarification on the filing of a memorandum of appeal within the stipulated time in instances where grounds of judgment have yet to be delivered.
